Amazon launches infrastructure for connected devices

New platform will help devices connect via the cloud.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has unveiled a platform which will enable users to build applications that tap into the 'internet of things', connecting devices with each other via cloud services.

Announcing the new service, called AWS IoT, a post on the AWS official blog explains that "This new managed cloud service provides the infrastructure that allows connected cars, factory floors, aircraft engines, sensor grids, and the like …to easily and securely interact with cloud services and with other devices, all at world-scale."

Amazon says that AWS IoT will use a fast, lightweight connection to the cloud and so will be well-suited for devices that have limited memory, processing power, or battery life.
