2012 UKeiG Tony Kent Strix Winners

This year, for the first time, two winners are announced.

UKeiG, the professional forum focused on the development and use of electronic information resources, has announced the winners of the 2012 Tony Kent Strix Awards.

Sponsored by ASLIB, the award is given in recognition of outstanding practical innovation or achievement in the field of information retrieval. This year, for the first time, two winners have been announced.

In his 15-year career in information retrieval, Doug Cutting has worked at Xerox's Palo Alto Research Center (PARC), Apple's Advanced Technology Group and Excite.  He developed the Lucene search engine and the open source Hadoop framework.  The award reflects his contribution to search software development.

Professor Dave Hawking has combined academic activities with commercial search engine development.  At TREC he co-ordinated the VLC (very large collection) and web tracks. His research work includes enterprise and web search, search engine evaluation and search efficiency.  His enterprise search engine company Funnelback has developed an enviable client list.

The awards will be presented during the opening keynote session on Day 2 of Internet Librarian International 2012.
